We are stunned and deeply saddened to announce that our long-time friend and colleague Sibylle Zerr passed away on December 31, 2024 after a short and serious illness. Last June, the photographer and author (“Picture Infinity: Marshall Allen & The Sun Ra Arkestra”) accompanied Frank Kleinschmidt to the Power Station Studio in New York to document the recording of the Sun Ra Arkestra’s new album. Ten years ago, Sibylle portrayed the Sun Ra Arkestra in Istanbul with her camera for IN+OUT Records. For the current album, she not only took the photographs but also wrote the liner notes. The combination of images and texts was Sibylle’s approach to getting to the bottom of things. These things very often included music. In 2004, for example, she traveled to New Orleans as a blues and jazz ambassador for the legendary Weinheim Muddy’s Club. She recorded her experiences and encounters in her book “Blues for a Butterfly”.
We will miss her dearly.
Our sympathy goes out to her husband Osman and her family.
